A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5468 AS INTRODUCED 9-25-09

The bill would amend the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act to prohibit a court order or court judgment from being denied legal effect or enforceability solely because the document used an electronic record in its formation or had been signed using an electronic signature.

MCL 480.837

FISCAL IMPACT:

House Bill 5468 would have an indeterminate, but positive fiscal impact on state and local governments.  The provisions of the bill would allow court orders and judgments to be kept in electronic format and still have legal effect.  The savings would come from reduced printing, record keeping, and mailing costs associated with storing and sending electronic records.
