CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to designate a portion of Highway M-21 as the "PFC Harold R. Cooley-WWII Marine Corps League Memorial Highway".
That designation would apply to the portion of M-21 in Shiawassee County beginning at the intersection of M-21 and Meridian Road (in Ovid) and continuing east to the intersection of M-21 and M-13.

BACKGROUND
The Harold R. Cooley Detachment of the Marine Corps League is named in honor of Private First Class Harold R. Cooley, a Marine from the Owosso area who was killed in the battle of Guam on July 21, 1944. The Detachment serves Shiawassee County and engages in a number of charitable activities to support Marines and Navy corpsmen and their families, including participating in the Toys for Tots program, assisting local charitable organizations, and volunteering at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Saginaw, according to its website. The Detachment also participates in parades, ceremonies, and other commemorative events.
