     A bill to specify how certain cities may pay an annual cost of

 

living supplement to employees.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the

 

"public employee cost of living supplement act".

 

     Sec. 2. A city with a population of 200,000 or more may pay

 

its employees an annual cost of living supplement in addition to

 

the employees' regular wages. The supplement shall be calculated by

 

multiplying an employee's annual wage for the preceding year by the

 

most recently available annual percentage increase in the consumer

 

price index. As used in this section, "consumer price index" means

 

the most comprehensive index of consumer prices available for this

 


state from the bureau of labor statistics of the United States

 

department of labor.
