     A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled

 

"Michigan election law,"

 

by amending section 519 (MCL 168.519).

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 519. No township, city or village clerk or assistant

 

clerk shall register any person whom such clerk shall know or have

 

good reason to believe not to be a resident and so qualified, nor

 

shall any person knowingly or having good reason to believe himself

 

not to be such a resident and so qualified, cause himself to be

 

registered as an elector. Every person so offending, or who shall

 

aid or abet another in so offending, shall upon conviction be

 

adjudged guilty of a misdemeanor.

 

     (1) A city, township, or village clerk or assistant clerk

 

shall not register a person to vote if the clerk or assistant clerk

 


knows or has good reason to believe that the person is not a

 

qualified elector.

 

     (2) A person shall not register to vote as an elector if that

 

person knows or has good reason to believe that he or she is not a

 

qualified elector.

 

     (3) A person shall not knowingly submit a fraudulent or forged

 

voter registration application to the secretary of state or a

 

county, city, township, or village clerk. As used in this

 

subsection, "person" means a business, individual, proprietorship,

 

firm, partnership, joint venture, syndicate, business trust, labor

 

organization, company, corporation, association, committee, or any

 

other organization or group of persons acting jointly.

 

     (4) A city, township, or village clerk or assistant clerk who

 

violates subsection (1), or a person who violates subsection (2) or

 

(3), is guilty of a felony.
