Sponsor: Rep. Douglas Geiss
Committee: Transportation
Complete to 11-1-11
A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5065 AS INTRODUCED 10-13-11
The bill would amend Section 224 of the Michigan Vehicle Code to specify that beginning January 1, 2012, the Department of State could not renew a "Great Lakes Splendor" or an "Auto Centennial" registration plate.
MCL 257.224
FISCAL IMPACT:
Under the provisions of House Bill 5065, the Secretary of State would no longer be permitted to renew a "Great Lakes Splendor" or "Auto Centennial" registration plate. Under statute, the Secretary of State would be allowed to charge $5 for a replacement license plate to cover the cost of inventory and transaction processing. With an estimated one million registration plates outstanding, the Secretary of State could generate up to $5.0 million which would cover the cost of new inventory and transaction processing.
