House Bill 5087 (as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Margaret O'Brien
House Committee: Regulatory Reform
Senate Committee: Regulatory Reform

Date Completed: 12-13-11

CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Liquor Control Code to eliminate the annual production limit for a brewer to sell its beer for on- or off-premises consumption.

Under the Code, a brewer that is not licensed as a micro brewer but produces less than 200,000 barrels of beer per calendar year may sell its beer for on-premises consumption at one location on any of its licensed brewery premises. In addition, micro brewers and brewers selling less than 200,000 barrels of beer per year may be licensed to sell beer at retail to a consumer for consumption on or off the brewery premises. The bill would delete the 200,000-barrel limit in each of those provisions.
