A SUMMARY OF SENATE BILL 390 AS REPORTED BY HOUSE COMMITTEE ON 10-22-13
The bill would amend the Motor Vehicle Code to allow a person who operates an autocycle to do so without a motorcycle indorsement on his or her operator's license.
The code defines an "autocycle" as an enclosed motorcycle that is equipped with safety belts, roll bar, windshield, wipers, steering wheel, and equipment otherwise required on a motorcycle, and which has not more than three wheels in contact with the roadway at any one time.
Currently, the Code requires a person to obtain a motorcycle indorsement before operating a motorcycle on a public street or highway. The bill would say, "other than an autocycle." At present, the code requires the Secretary of State to develop a driving test specifically for an autocycle or a three-wheeled motorcycle. The bill would remove this requirement for autocycles.
