RENAME MICHIGAN HERITAGE ROUTES
AS "PURE MICHIGAN BYWAYS"
House Bill 5072
Sponsor: Rep. Peter Pettalia
Committee: Transportation and Infrastructure
Complete to 10-21-13
A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5072 AS INTRODUCED 10-10-13
Public Act 69 of 1993 created a process by which certain highways on the state trunkline system can be designated as "Michigan Heritage Routes" by the Department of Transportation. These are scenic, recreational, or historic routes considered representative of Michigan's natural and cultural heritage.
House Bill 5072 would amend the act to require the Department of Transportation to designate all Michigan Heritage Routes as "Pure Michigan Byways," no later than one year after the bill's effective date.
The bill, as a result, also removes references in the act to "Michigan Heritage Routes" and replaces them with references to "Pure Michigan Byways."
The bill also would delete and repeal language that described the process for establishing criteria and designating the initial heritage route system.
Proposed MCL 247.91 et al.
