A bill to amend 2001 PA 142, entitled
"Michigan memorial highway act,"
(MCL 250.1001 to 250.2080) by adding sections 2a and 76.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 2a. (1) Beginning on the effective date of the amendatory
act that added this section, all of the following apply to a state
trunk line highway or a portion of a state trunk line highway named
under this act:
(a) At any time, a state trunk line highway or portion of a
state trunk line highway shall not have more than 1 name assigned
under this act.
(b) A state trunk line highway or portion of a state trunk
line highway shall only be named after a deceased individual who
was 1 or both of the following:
(i) A member of the United States army, air force, navy, marine
corps, or coast guard who died in the line of duty.
(ii) An officer employed by the department of state police who
died in the line of duty. As used in this subparagraph, "officer"
means that term as defined in section 1 of 1935 PA 59, MCL 28.1.
(2) This section does not apply to a state trunk line highway
or portion of a state trunk line highway that was named under this
act before the effective date of the amendatory act that added this
section.
Sec. 76. The portion of highway M-71 that is within the
village limits of the village of Vernon shall be known as the
"Graham Barlow Jr., WWII Memorial Highway".
