Rep. Ananich offered the following resolution:

House Resolution No. 15. 

A resolution to declare January 26, 2013, as Show Me The Money Day in the state of Michigan.

Whereas, Ensuring all Michigan residents have access to opportunities to reach financial stability is critical to the success of the state’s economy; and

Whereas, Current indicators reveal financial instability among Michigan’s families, in that 15% of families live in poverty and 40% of families live without enough liquid assets to sustain themselves at or above the poverty level for three months without income; and

Whereas, Income tax season represents an important opportunity for families to save and plan for their financial futures; and

Whereas, Financial opportunity at tax time is celebrated nationally with National Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day on January 25, 2013; and

Whereas, Communities across the state of Michigan kick off tax season and connect residents with numerous financial resources, including free financial education classes, affordable financial products and services, and savings and asset building programs at local Show Me The Money Day events held annually on the last Saturday in January; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare January 26, 2013, as Show Me The Money Day in the state of Michigan.
