SUMMARY:
Senate Bill 1025 would amend Section 1a of the Electrical Administrative Act by modifying the scope of what a fire alarm specialty technician may do. The bill would take effect 90 days after the date it is enacted into law.
Presently, a fire alarm specialty technician means "a person other than a fire alarm contractor who, as his or her principal occupation, is engaged in the practical installation or alteration of fire alarm system wiring." The law also states that a fire alarm contractor may also be a fire alarm specialty technician.
The bill would amend this by changing the term to mean, "An individual who, as his or her principal occupation, is engaged in the design and practical installation or alteration of fire alarm systems."
SB 1025 also would make other changes to the bill which would not significantly impact current meaning.
[NOTE: Senate Bill 963, which is also pending at this time, would repeal the Electrical Administrative Act, among other acts, and incorporate many of its present provisions into a new act. Unless the change proposed by SB 1025 is also incorporated into SB 963, it would be repealed upon the enactment of that bill.]
FISCAL IMPACT:
Senate Bill 1025 would not have a fiscal impact on units of state or local government.
