MCL 250.1004a

BACKGROUND:

According to information from the Michigan State Police, State Trooper Steven B. Devries was shot and killed during a traffic stop near Niles, Michigan, in October of 1972, after receiving reports of a bank robber on the run.  He was 32 years old, and survived by his wife and two children.  Information found in his notepad led to the apprehension and conviction of the shooter for bank robbery and murder.  See page 28 at this MSP website:

FISCAL IMPACT:

Section 2 of the Michigan Memorial Highway Act indicates that the State Transportation Department shall only provide for the erection of suitable markers indicating the name of the highway "when sufficient private contributions are received to completely cover the cost of erecting and maintaining those markers."  As a result, the bill has no state or local fiscal impact.
