STATE FLAG TO SURVIVOR OF LEGISLATOR

SUMMARY:
The bill would create a new act to require the legislature to present a state flag to the survivor of a state legislator upon the legislator's death, if requested by the survivor (a spouse, parent, or child). The new act would be known as "The Michigan Legislative Funeral Act."
The flag would be presented "on behalf of the state in recognition of the eligible legislator's service to this state." The term "legislator" would refer to a current or former member of Michigan House of Representatives or Senate.
FISCAL IMPACT:
House Bill 4678 would increase costs to the state by an amount directly related to the cost of a state flag and the number of flags requested.
