CONTENT
The bill would amend the Revised School Code to require the Department of Education, and a school district, intermediate school district, or a public school academy to comply with certain disclosure requirements for educational, personal, or other information concerning a pupil.
Specifically, the bill would require the Department to comply with, and would require the board of a school district or intermediate school district (ISD), or board of directors of a public school academy (PSA), to ensure that the school district, ISD, or PSA complied with, both of the following concerning pupil privacy:
-- Upon request by a pupil's parent or legal guardian, the Department, school district, ISD, or PSA would have to disclose to the parent or legal guardian any educational, personal, or other information concerning the pupil that was collected or created by that entity.
-- If the Department, school district, ISD, or PSA provided any of the specified information to any person other than the pupil's school district, ISD, or PSA, the pupil's parent or legal guardian, or the Department, the entity would have to disclose to the pupil's parent or legal guardian, upon his or her written request, the following: a) the specific information disclosed, and b) the name and contact information of each person to which the information was disclosed.
The Department, school district, ISD, or PSA would have to disclose all of the information above within 30 days after it received the written request and without charge to the parent or legal guardian.
