CONTENT

 

The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to name the portion of highway I-75 in Genesee County as the "John Wayne 'Dusty' Marcum Memorial Highway".

 

The bill would take effect 90 days after it was enacted.

BACKGROUND

 

John Wayne "Dusty" Marcum was an elite Navy Seal who died in Afghanistan on September 12, 2008. He had taken part in 12 missions overseas since 2001, earning two Silver Stars, four Bronze Stars with Valor, and a Purple Heart. He was a Flushing Township native who joined the Navy in 1991 after graduating from Flushing High School.
