CONTENT

The bill amended the Michigan Election Law to prohibit a signature on a petition to amend the Constitution or initiate legislation from being counted if the signature was made more than 180 days before the petition is filed with the Secretary of State.

Previously, the Law established a rebuttable presumption that a petition signature was stale and void if it was made more than 180 days before the petition was filed. The bill deleted that language.

The bill took effect on June 7, 2016.
