MULTILINE ID OF 9-1-1 CALL S.B. 878:
SUMMARY OF INTRODUCED BILL
IN COMMITTEE
Senate Bill 878 (as introduced 4-13-16)
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Emergency 9-1-1 Service Enabling Act to limit to buildings with more than 40,000 square feet of occupied space a provision concerning the installation of equipment necessary to provide specific location information of a 9-1-1 call.
Under the Act, the Michigan Public Service Commission must consult with and consider the recommendations of the Emergency 9-1-1 Service Committee in the promulgation of rules to require each service user with a multiline telephone system to install, by December 31, 2016, the equipment and software necessary to provide specific location information for a 9-1-1 call. This requirement applies to multiline telephone systems regardless of the system technology.
Under the bill, the above requirement would apply only to a building that contained an occupied area of more than 40,000 square feet.
The bill also would define "specific location" as a room or unit number, room name, or equivalent unique designation of a portion of a structure or building, to which a 9-1-1 emergency response team may be dispatched.
