REPEAL OF BAN ON ENDURANCE CONTESTS H.B. 4250:
SUMMARY OF HOUSE-PASSED BILL
IN COMMITTEE
House Bill 4250 (as passed by the House)
Sponsor: Representative Rob VerHeulen
House Committee: Criminal Justice
CONTENT
The bill would repeal Public Act 140 of 1935, which prohibits a person from promoting, conducting, or participating in any endurance contest known as a walkathon or similar endurance contest. The prohibition does not apply, however, to an event that begins and ends on the same day or an event that is completed within a predetermined period of less than 12 hours.
A violation is a misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum fine of $100 and/or up to 90 days' imprisonment. Each violation constitutes a separate offense.

FISCAL IMPACT
Under the bill, local government would save court costs and the costs of incarceration due to the repeal of a misdemeanor. Public libraries would no longer receive fine revenue. The bill would have no fiscal impact on the State.
