CONTENT

The bill would amend Public Act 287 of 1969, which regulates pet shops and animal shelters, to modify or include definitions for certain terms.

The bill is tie-barred to Senate Bill 339. (Senate Bill 339 (S-2) would amend Public Act 287 of 1969 to require the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to promulgate rules establishing standards for dog breeding operations, and to establish the Animal Welfare Commission.)

The House bill would define "animal welfare" as the standards of care and treatment for animals, including, but not limited to, husbandry, housing, sanitation, nutrition, and veterinary care, to ensure their physical health and psychological well-being.

"Commission" would mean the Animal Welfare Commission created in Section 11 (which Senate Bill 339 (S-2) would amend).
