     A bill to amend 1937 PA 72, entitled

 

"Division on deafness act,"

 

by amending section 3 (MCL 408.203), as amended by 1988 PA 434.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 3. (1) The division on deafness deaf, deafblind, and hard

 

of hearing is established within the department. The purpose of the

 

office is to protect and assist all deaf, deafblind, and hard of

 

hearing impaired persons, with special emphasis on deaf persons.

 

     (2) The division shall be supervised by a director of the

 

division who shall be appointed by the director of labor. the

 

department. The director of the division shall be a member of the

 

classified state civil service, hold not less than a bachelor's

 

degree, be fluent in American sign language, and have the ability

 

to communicate in various ways with deaf persons.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days


after the date it is enacted into law.
