     A bill to amend 1953 PA 232, entitled

 

"Corrections code of 1953,"

 

(MCL 791.201 to 791.285) by adding section 8a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 8a. As used in this act, "recidivism" means the rearrest,

 

reconviction, <<or>> reincarceration in prison or jail<<, or any

combination of those events,>> of an

 

individual <<as measured first after 3 years and again after 5 years

from the date>> of his or her release from

 

incarceration, placement on probation, or conviction, whichever is

 

later, and probation and parole violations as well as misdemeanor

 

and felony convictions, if recidivism data regarding technical

 

probation and parole violations are collected and maintained

 

separately from data on new felony or misdemeanor convictions.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days


after the date it is enacted into law.
