A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 312j.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 312j. (1) The department shall establish a pilot program
that, as determined by the department, provides for the vehicle
group designation testing of an individual who is the holder of a
valid commercial license permit issued by a state other than this
state.
(2) An individual who is the holder of a valid commercial
license permit issued by a state other than this state is not
eligible for vehicle group designation testing in this state as
described in subsection (1) unless all of the following are
satisfied:
(a) The individual has successfully completed a truck driver
training curriculum that has been approved by the department and
provided by a person that has been approved to provide truck driver
training under the driver education provider and instructor act,
2006 PA 384, MCL 256.621 to 256.705.
(b) The state that issued the commercial license permit is a
participant in an electronic national commercial driver examination
reporting system in which this state is also a participant on the
effective date of the amendatory act that added this section.
(3) The pilot program described in subsection (1) shall
continue until the department adopts official commercial driver
license curriculum requirements for a person providing education to
individuals seeking to obtain a vehicle group designation described
in section 312e to qualify to provide the testing required for
those individuals under section 309.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
