A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state
constitution of 1963, by adding section 21a to article V, to
provide for the filling of a vacancy in the office of lieutenant
governor.
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state
constitution of 1963, to provide for the filling of a vacancy in
the office of lieutenant governor, is proposed, agreed to, and
submitted to the people of the state:
ARTICLE V
Sec. 21a. If the lieutenant governor succeeds to the office of
governor as provided in section 26 of this article, or if a vacancy
otherwise occurs in the office of lieutenant governor, the governor
shall call a special election to fill the vacancy. The special
election shall be held on the next regular election date that is
not less than 120 days after the date the vacancy occurs. An
individual elected to fill a vacancy shall serve for the remainder
of the unexpired term.
Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be
submitted to the people of the state at the next general election
in the manner provided by law.
