Sponsor:  Rep. John Kivela

Committee:  Local Government

Complete to 5-8-17

SUMMARY:

House Bill 4292 would amend Public Act 199 of 1929 (MCL 123.43) to provide that the governing body of a village or township where a community center is located shall determine by resolution the compensation of the board of directors of the center. Currently, directors must serve without compensation.

The bill would take effect 90 days after being enacted into law.

BRIEF BACKGROUND:

PA 199 of 1929 allows townships and villages with under 10,000 residents to, after a vote of the people, establish a community center for the benefit of the public and levy up to two mills in order to purchase and maintain the center.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The bill is permissive, so the cost to local units is determined at the local level.
