SUMMARY:
Currently under the Michigan Vehicle Code, a windshield placard issued to a disabled person must bear the first letter and the last 3 digits of his or her driver's or chauffeur's license number or the first letter and last 4 digits of the number of his or her official state personal identification card.
House Bill 4574 amends the Code to revise the windshield placard identification requirements for a disabled person with a state personal identification card to mirror those for a placard for someone with a driver's or chauffeur's license, to include the first letter and last 3 digits of the number (instead of the last 4 digits).
The bill also prohibits the Secretary of State from issuing a permanent placard to an individual unless that individual has provided proof of Michigan residency.
The bill takes effect 90 days after being enacted into law.
MCL 257.675
FISCAL IMPACT:
The bill would have no fiscal impact on the state or local units of government.
