SUMMARY:
House Bill 4160, enacted as Public Act 112 of 2017, revised the Michigan Vehicle Code to add Section 676b to allow a person to solicit contributions on behalf of a charitable or civic organization during daylight hours in a traffic intersection under specific conditions[1] That bill defined "charitable or civic organization" to mean a nonprofit organization qualified under sections 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) of the federal Internal Revenue Code or a veterans' organization that has tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code.
House Bill 4888 would amend Section 676b of the Michigan Vehicle Code to expand the definition of applicable "charitable or civic organization" to also include a nonprofit organization qualified under section 501(c)(7), 501(c)(8) or 501(c)(10) of the federal Internal Revenue Code, namely social and recreational clubs, and fraternal societies or organizations.
MCL 257.676b
