SUMMARY:

House Bill 5738 would repeal Section 8 of Public Act 267 of 1947, which made a one-time fiscal year 1947-48 appropriation of $2,000 to carry out the provisions of the Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan Interstate Boundary Compact in surveying and marking the boundaries between the three states.

House Bill 5741 would repeal Public Act 282 of 1927, which established a special commission charged with designating and marking the boundary between Michigan and Wisconsin in accordance with a 1926 United States Supreme Court decision, Michigan v Wisconsin, 270 US 295. The 1926 decision was later dismissed and the boundary settled with two subsequent Supreme Court cases, Wisconsin v Michigan, 295 US 455 (1935), and Wisconsin v Michigan, 297 US 547 (1936).
