SUMMARY:

House Bill 5892 would repeal Public Act 195 of 1935, which created a State Prison Commission to establish camps to confine persons released on probation or parole. Under the act, probationers and parolees cannot be confined in the same camp. The Commission is required to provide educational and instructive courses of a civil and semi-military character that are vocational or physical and best suited to equip and train the inmates as good citizens.

FISCAL IMPACT:

House Bill 5892 would have no fiscal impact on the state or local units of government. Probation recovery camps have not existed in the state in many years.
