CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to name the portion of highway M-52 beginning at the intersection of highway M-52 and Carleton Road in Lenawee County and extending south to the border between Michigan and Ohio as the "Trooper Calvin R. Jones Memorial Highway".
The bill would take effect 90 days after it was enacted.
BACKGROUND
Trooper Calvin R. Jones was killed in a patrol car crash on M-52 in Lenawee County on February 10, 1956, while pursuing a speeding vehicle. According to the Michigan State Police Troopers Association, Trooper Jones struck the rear corner of a truck he was trying to pass after the truck driver made a left turn.
Trooper Jones was 30 years old when the incident occurred, and was the 18th Michigan State Police officer to die in the line of duty.
