The bill would amend Public Act 222 of 1972, which governs official State personal identification cards, to specify that an individual's digital photographic image or signature could be used by the Secretary of State (SOS) for forwarding to the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) the images of applicants for an official State registry identification card issued under the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act, if a photograph were required for an official State registration card by LARA.

(Public Act 222 of 1972 requires the SOS to retain and use an individual's digital photographic image and signature only for programs administered by the SOS as specifically authorized by law. The Michigan Medical Marihuana Act requires LARA to issue registry identification cards to qualifying patients who submit information listed in the Act, in accordance with LARA's rules. A card may be issued to a qualifying patient who is under the age of 18 if certain criteria are met.)
