CONTENT

 

The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to designate the ramp from westbound highway I-696 to southbound highway I-275 in the City of Farmington Hills as the "Trooper Vicki Moreau DeVries Memorial Highway".

 

The bill would take effect 90 days after it was enacted.

BACKGROUND

 

According to the Michigan State Police Trooper Association, Trooper Vicki Moreau DeVries died on July 22, 1982, after her unmarked Michigan State Police vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Trooper DeVries had been working undercover as a narcotics officer assigned to COMET (Combined Oakland-Macomb Enforcement Team). She had secured narcotics through a transaction with a suspected narcotics dealer before the accident occurred. The accident took place on I-696 in the City of Farmington Hills. Trooper DeVries was the 36th Michigan State Police officer to die in the line of duty.
