CONTENT

 

The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to designate the portion of highway M-15 in the City of Vassar as the "Specialist 5 Michael May and Corporal Chris Esckelson Memorial Highway".

 

The bill would take effect 90 days after it was enacted.

BACKGROUND

 

Specialist Michael Frederic May was a U.S. Army special forces soldier who died at the age of 22 in Cambodia while on a secret reconnaissance mission on March 2, 1969. He attended Vassar High School and Western Michigan University before joining the Army in 1967.

 

Corporal Christopher Esckelson was a member of the United States Marine Corps and died on Thursday, December 28, 2006, at the age of 22 in Fallujah, Iraq. He graduated from Vassar High School in 2002. Corporal Esckelson joined the Marine Corps Reserves in 2002 and was attending Delta College before being called to active duty in April 2006.
