CONTENT

 

House Bill 5738 would repeal Section 8 of Public Act 267 of 1947, which made a one-time appropriation of $2,000 for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of the Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan Interstate Boundary Compact.

 

House Bill 5741 would repeal Public Act 282 of 1927, which created a special commission that was required to designate and mark the boundary between Michigan and Wisconsin, in accordance with a 1926 United States Supreme Court case, Michigan v. Wisconsin, 270 US 295.  

 

House Bill 5738 is described in more detail below.

 

Public Act 267 of 1947 ratified the Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan Interstate Boundary Compact, which establishes the boundaries between Michigan and Wisconsin in Lake Michigan, and the boundaries between Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin in Lake Superior.

 

Section 8 of the Act appropriated from the General Fund for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1948, $2,000 for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of the Compact.

 

The bill would repeal section 8.
