A bill to prescribe the green alert of Michigan as the
official response to reports of a missing veteran at risk; and to
provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local
governmental officials.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the
"Michigan green alert act".
Sec. 3. As used in this act:
(a) "Armed forces" means the United States Army, Navy, Marine
Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard, including the reserve
components.
(b) "Veteran at risk" means an active duty member or a veteran
of the armed forces who is known to have a physical or mental
health condition that is related to his or her service in the armed
forces.
Sec. 5. (1) The department of state police shall establish and
maintain the Michigan green alert plan.
(2) The Michigan green alert plan shall be designed to rapidly
disseminate useful information in a predetermined manner to radio
and television stations within this state.
Sec. 7. A Michigan green alert may only be activated in
accordance with policies established by the department of state
police and if both of the following conditions apply:
(a) There is reason to believe a veteran at risk is missing
due to his or her physical or mental health condition.
(b) There is sufficient information available to disseminate
that could assist in locating the missing veteran at risk.
Enacting section 1. This act takes effect 90 days after the
date it is enacted into law.
