COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIP; ALT QUALIFICATION S.B. 1086:
SUMMARY OF DISCHARGED BILL
Senate Bill 1086 (as discharged)
Sponsor: Senator Kimberly LaSata
Committee: Appropriations (discharged)
CONTENT
The bill would amend Public Act 208 of 1964, which provides for the administration of the State Competitive Scholarship program, to allow the Department of Treasury, for academic year 2020-21 only, to waive the exam requirement for the State Competitive Scholarship, and to rely on scholastic achievement to determine eligibility for the scholarship.
FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would not have a significant fiscal impact on the State or local units of government. To the extent that the bill would allow a greater number of students to receive the scholarship, statute specifies that if there are insufficient appropriations to cover the amount of scholarships awarded, the amount of each individual scholarship award must be prorated so as not to exceed the overall appropriation.
