BENEFITS ELIGIBILITY REQ.; MODIFY S.B. 501:
SUMMARY OF INTRODUCED BILL
IN COMMITTEE
Senate Bill 501 (as introduced 6-2-21)
Committee: Economic and Small Business Development
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Employment Security Act to specify that an individual would have to register for work with a Michigan Works agency within 21 calendar days after the individual applied for benefits to be eligible to receive them.
Under the Act, an unemployed individual is eligible to receive benefits with respect to any week only if the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) finds that the individual meets certain requirements. Among other requirements, the UIA must find that the individual has registered for work. Under the bill, the UIA would have to find that the individual registered for work by registering with a Michigan Works agency within 21 calendar days after he or she applied for benefits.
