SUMMARY OF BILL
REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE
House Bill 5089 (Substitute S-2 as reported)
Sponsor: Representative Ann Bollin
House Committee: Health Policy
Senate Committee: Health Policy and Human Services
CONTENT
The bill would amend Part 219 (Nurse Aide Training and Registration Program) of the Public Health Code to do the following:
-- Modify the requirements an applicant must meet to be granted registration as a nurse aide by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).
-- Require LARA to allow an applicant to complete a nurse aide competency examination online or through remote means, or at a nursing care facility that proctored the examination.
-- Require LARA to allow a testing vendor to contract with the staff of a nursing care facility to proctor a nurse aide competency examination.
-- Prohibit LARA from denying a person a permit as a nurse aide training program because the program allowed individuals to complete curricula online or through remote means, or counted the time and individual had worked performing skills necessary of a nurse aide as time in training.
-- Specify that the online competency examination and the line curricula would not apply to training or testing required under Federal regulations.
