Proposed MCL 250.1105

BACKGROUND

Army Specialist Deangelo Snow was born on August 30, 1988, in Saginaw County, Michigan. He graduated Buena Vista High School in 2008 and joined the service one year later. Snow was assigned to the 526th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as a quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer.

Snow died September 17, 2010, at FOB Wilson, Afghanistan, after sustaining wounds when insurgents attacked his vehicle with a rocket-propelled grenade. Snow received several awards and decorations for his service, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.

FISCAL IMPACT

The bill would have no fiscal impact on State or local government. The Act specifies that the Department of Transportation may provide for the erection and maintenance of markers designating the name of a highway only when sufficient private funds are available to cover the costs of erecting and maintaining those markers. As such, private funds would cover the cost of the renaming, and no State funds would be used.
