A bill to prohibit the receipt of certain military weapons from the federal government by law enforcement agencies; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1. As used in this act, "law enforcement agency" means that term as defined in section 2 of the Michigan commission on law enforcement standards act, 1965 PA 203, MCL 28.602.

Sec. 3. (1) A law enforcement agency may not receive any of the following military weapons from a military equipment surplus program operated by the federal government:

(a) Drones that are either armored or weaponized, or both.

(b) Aircraft that are combat configured or combat coded.

(c) Grenades, grenade launchers, or similar explosives.

(d) Silencers.

(e) Military armored vehicles.

(2) Notwithstanding subsection (1), a law enforcement agency shall not receive a military weapon from a military equipment surplus program operated by the federal government unless the military weapon is nonlethal.
