A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled

"Revised judicature act of 1961,"

(MCL 600.101 to 600.9947) by adding section 2406.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 2406. (1) If the supreme court issues a ruling preventing trial courts from imposing or collecting court costs upon conviction under section 1k of chapter IX of the code of criminal procedure, 1927 PA 175, MCL 769.1k, within 60 days of that ruling, the state court administrative office shall provide a report to the legislature with an estimate of the amount of each trial court's operational funding needs and the amount of funding loss by each trial court as a result of the court ruling. The estimate under this subsection must be based on existing data.

(2) After the funding already appropriated for the current fiscal year by the trial court's funding unit and this state is applied, if a trial court's estimated operational funding needs under subsection (1) are not met, upon appropriation, the state shall pay the trial court's remaining operational funding needs up to the amount of the estimated operational funding loss.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No.____ or House Bill No. 5956 (request no. 05378'22) of the 101st Legislature is enacted into law.
