A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

"The revised school code,"

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding sections 1302 and 1302a.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1302. The board of a school district or intermediate school district or board of directors of a public school academy shall not do either of the following and shall ensure that each school operated by the board or board of directors does not do either of the following with regard to pupils enrolled in the school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy in any of grades pre-K to 12:

(a) Host for access by the pupils, present to the pupils, or display to the pupils a drag show or drag presentation.

(b) Expose the pupils, in any other manner not described in subdivision (a), to a drag show or drag presentation.

Sec. 1302a. The parent or legal guardian of a pupil enrolled in a school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy may bring a civil action against the school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy if it does not comply with section 1302 for exemplary damages of not less than $2,500.00 and not more than $10,000.00.
