Rep. Lasinski offered the following resolution:
A resolution to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the Michigan Notable Book Program.
Whereas, The Michigan Notable Book Program started in 1991 and annually honors 20 books and authors published during the previous calendar year; and
Whereas, The selections are about, or set, in Michigan or written by a Michigan author and span both fiction and nonfiction; and
Whereas, Approximately 600 books and authors have been honored in the program’s 31 year history; and
Whereas, Honorees are recognized for their work through a rigorous selection process where librarians, academics, and booksellers from around Michigan who read through 300-400 titles every year to select the best of the of the books each year; and
Whereas, This program benefits readers and the people of Michigan by recognizing the literature that is singular to our state and showcases our diversity; and
Whereas, This program elevates and showcases the literary culture of Michigan; and
Whereas, The Michigan Notable Book Program pays tribute and draws attention to the many people, places, and things that make Michigan unique and vibrant; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body commemorate the 31st anniversary of the Michigan Notable Book Program.
