CONTENT
The bill would amend the State School Aid Act to provide supplemental appropriations for fiscal year (FY) 2024-25. The bill would add $126.0 million in School Aid Fund (SAF) money for FY 2024-25.
The bill would appropriate $125.0 million SAF for additional one-time per-pupil school safety and mental health grants to districts and intermediate districts (ISDs). The bill would add language stating that it is the intent of the Legislature that a recipient utilizing one-time funding under the section to hire staff would assume financial responsibility for those staff after the current fiscal year. It also would add a requirement that the Department of Education transmit a report by August 1 of each year on the number of districts utilizing school resource officers that used funds under the bill.
The bill also would appropriate $1.0 million SAF to support a tip line for students to anonymously report improperly stored firearms that were accessible to a minor. The Department of Education would have to develop educational materials related to improperly stored firearms and how to report improperly stored firearms and would have to distribute the educational materials to districts and ISDs.
FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would appropriate $126.0 million SAF in FY 2024-25 supplemental funding. The gross increase in appropriations would be $126.0 million in FY 2024-25.
